Shyne shines at American Miss Pageant
Shyne Hickey, 10-year-old daughter of Sharla and Carlos Hickey of Madrid, earned second runner-up this year at the National American Miss Nebraska Pageant held June 7-9 in Omaha.
This is the fourth year that Shyne has taken part in the pageant, which, her mom said, she loves. Last year Shyne earned third-runner up in the competition.
“Shyne has learned so much from competing,” Sharla said. “She can speak better than I ever did, and she is great at memorization. She always gives me thumbs up, saying ‘I’m ok mom. I got this.’”
To earn second-runner up, Shyne had to compete in an interview process, introduction process, formal wear competition along with doing a service project of gathering reading books and school supplies for schools.
Other optional events that she chose to be a part of during the weekend were casual wear, spokesmodel and resume competitions, all of which she won, and she earned second runner-up for her talent of Acro Dancing. Escorting her on stage for her formal wear competition was her 16-year-old brother Trye, who, Sharla said, did an outstanding job supporting his little sister.
Because of her exceptional performance, Shyne qualifies to attend the national competition in Florida in November. However, cost is preventing the family from attending, Sharla said.
Shyne doesn’t plan on stopping here, though. She will continue to compete in the pageant, which is for girls ages four to 20. For more information on the pageant, log on to http://www.namiss.com/
